Way back in February we asked you to submit a photo of yourself doing your favorite workout. There were SO many great responses that it took a while to choose just one winner… But here she is:  Cassandra Pacura!

Cassandra sent in a snapshot from her favorite Zumba instructor’s “4th Anniversary Party for Zumba.” (She’s the one with the big smile, second from the left in the photo.) ”I have such blast getting together with my friends and doing Zumba,” says Cassandra.

On top of having fun, she’s blasting off the pounds, too. “I’ve lost seventeen pounds so far, and I’m getting more confident doing all the moves,” she says.  With help from her instructor, Cassandra plans to keep dancing and lose even more. “My instructor Michelle has helped me so much on this journey,” says Cassandra. “If  it wasn’t for her and Zumba, I’d still be 217 pounds and hiding out in the back row.”

Cassandra is aiming to hit her goal weight by the end of this year by tracking her nutrition and fitness. “I love MyFitnessPal because it reminds me that we can never give up on ourselves,” she says. “We can do it!”

The MyFitnessPal Trick that Helped This Woman Drop 42 lbs.—and Keep them Off!

myfitnesspal success story Jessica McDowellIn early 2013, Jessica McDowell, 27, a teacher and graduate student stepped on the scale and saw the number 299 blinking up at her. “My heart was heavy because I didn’t know how I had let this happen, or what I could do to fix it,” says Jessica. She resolved to lose the weight that had slowly appeared, and looked to a fad diet to do the trick. “But once I went back to my usual eating routine, what little weight I managed to lose on the restrictive plan quickly came back,” she says. “I was upset and frustrated, and I didn’t know what to do.”

Happily, a friend told Jessica about MyFitnessPal. “I started logging my meals and water intake, whether I was at work or on the go, and I kept up with other members,” she says. “MyFitnessPal has changed my life.” Since joining Jessica has lost 42 pounds—and has kept it off! “I’m more conscious of what, and how much, I eat now, and I’ve learned that I am not on this journey alone.”

Her life is still hectic, but Jessica is finding balance. “There are days when I get off work and have to drive over an hour to class,” she says. “I rely on logging to help me make healthier choices, and now I plan meals that I can make at home and bring with me to eat in the car.”

When MyFitnessPal caught up with Jessica in January of this year she was adding exercise into the mix. “I started using MyFitnessPal to log my workouts at home, the gym, and at my aerobics class,” she says. “Keeping track of my workouts and eating healthy is really helping me see how attainable my goal is—I’m getting closer every day!”

Still, slip-ups happen, and when they do, Jessica is ready with a MyFitnessPal trick: “Now that I’m logging my meals and keeping track of my calories, I can plan for splurges,” she says. “Before going to a restaurant, I can plan for the meal ahead and no longer worry about it diverting me away from my goal.”

December 2013 Member of the Month Winner: Jayne O!


In December we asked you to show and tell us how you’d use MyFitnessPal to stay focused on keeping active while you were enjoying the holiday spirit.

Jayne says:

“MFP has helped me more than any other diet or exercise plan I have ever tried! I’ve lost 40 pounds and kept it off because MFP makes it so easy to keep myself accountable and keep track of what I’m eating.

I’ve been dieting on and off for nearly my entire life. Once I got to college, I pretty much gave up. I gained about 40 pounds, stopped being active, and ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted it. I was eating fast food 2-3 times a day, I was sluggish, and I felt awful. Since joining MFP nearly 2 years ago, I’ve managed to lose all the weight I gained in college, and now I’m on track to lose even more and get myself to a healthy weight.

With the food tracker, I found out exactly how many calories I was eating every day (some days were nearly 3,000!!), and that was the wakeup call I needed to start making meaningful changes. But the best part about MFP is that it fits so easily into my life. Logging on is part of my daily routine, and if I don’t log my food I feel like something’s missing. And I don’t  feel like I’m on a diet; this is just my life now, and it’s full of choices. I don’t feel like I’m in a short-term program, or that I constantly have to deprive myself. I’m learning to balance everything- a treat here, an extra workout there. I don’t ever feel like I have to have a “cheat” day. Instead I just have a day where I don’t think about calorie counts, and those days fit into my life just as well as days when I have a killer workout. I am so grateful to MFP for providing a tool that’s easy to use, that’s not overwhelming, and that helps me transition into a better, healthier life.

I don’t know where I’d be today without it.”
