The star ingredient in guacamole, egg boats, avocado toast and even brownies, avocados are both nutritious and versatile. Since the late 1980s, avocado consumption has skyrocketed nearly six-fold to a record high of 2.6 billion pounds in 2019.

Avocados are a low-sugar, high-fat fruit (yep, they’re technically a fruit) produced by the avocado tree known as Persea americana. In addition to being creamy and delicious, avocados can help lower cholesterol, support eye health, promote weight loss and more.
