Everything You Need to Know About Avocados

The star ingredient in guacamole, egg boats, avocado toast and even brownies, avocados are both nutritious and versatile. Since the late 1980s, avocado consumption has skyrocketed nearly six-fold to a record high of 2.6 billion pounds in 2019.

Avocados are a low-sugar, high-fat fruit (yep, they’re technically a fruit) produced by the avocado tree known as Persea americana. In addition to being creamy and delicious, avocados can help lower cholesterol, support eye health, promote weight loss and more.
