Losing (the pounds) feels like winning
So many members set weight loss goals and crushed them in 2023, collectively losing an amazing 697 million pounds. That amounts to about the same weight as 31 Eiffel Towers — c’est incroyable!

Walking the literal walk
According to the Mayo Clinic, a brisk daily walk burns fat, improves cardiovascular fitness, boosts the immune system, reduces stress, and more. MyFitnessPal members reaped the benefits of putting one foot in front of the other, covering a combined distance of 1,585,725,493 miles. That’s like walking across the U.S. 528,575 times!
Burning it up
Of course, walking wasn’t the only way members got moving. From running to yoga to HIIT, all that movement resulted in a global burn of 708,098,632,169 calories. Yes, it’s a big number — and it means our members burned more than 1 million calories every minute. In other words, they really made every minute count!
Hittin’ those macros
Chicken breast, olive oil, and bananas hit #1 for proteins, fats, and carbs, respectively. “It always makes me happy to see such nourishing choices in our top-logged foods,” says Stephanie Nelson, Registered Dietitian and Lead Nutrition Scientist at MyFitnessPal. “I’d also love to see more complex carbs top the list, like berries, beans, and broccoli. They’re high in fiber — aiding in satiation — and can help prevent disease. Maybe a New Year’s Resolution for next year?”

Hydrating all day, every day
Water is vital to health — nearly 60% of the human body is composed of it. The good news is that MyFitnessPal members took water logging seriously in 2023, drinking over 30 million gallons of it! That’s more than 60 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Healthy hydration for the win!
Working a Plan
Eleven percent more MyFitnessPal members joined a Plan in 2023. That means more and more people are getting daily expert nutrition guidance from our resident dietitians to help them sleep better, eat more protein, and boost their immunity. Here’s another suggestion for a New Year’s resolution: Commit to completing three Plans throughout the year — the most popular amongst members are High Protein, Intermittent Fasting and Low Carb (which you’ll have to upgrade to MyFitnessPal Premium to start).
You can also join the NEW Plan being released in January in collaboration with someone pretty cool. More details to come !
Eating, logging, repeating
We saved the most impressive stat for last. Food logging is key to achieving weight-related goals, and the MyFitnessPal community logged a whopping 7.6 billion foods in 2023 — that’s an average of 241 foods logged every second, which is pretty bananas. Literally.
Congratulations to everyone for a year of incredible accomplishments. From trying new recipes and losing more weight to making food logging a part of a healthy lifestyle, we can’t wait to celebrate all the wins that 2024 is sure to bring!
