Getting in shape and eating well can feel like a lonely endeavor sometimes. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Watch this video to learn about a new movement sweeping the nation that is taking solo health and fitness goals and turning them into a fun, social experience.

Join the movement! MyFitnessPal users who add friends on MyFitnessPal or share their food diaries lose four times more weight than the average user who goes it alone. To create a Fitness Tribe of your own:

1. Declare your mission Get clear on your own health or fitness goals first, and then find like-minded friends, relatives, coworkers, or acquaintances. Together you can support, motivate, and inspire each other.

2. Pick your tribe carefully Fill your Fitness Tribe with people who are supportive and positive. You want people who will show up when you make workout plans, stay upbeat when things get tough and encourage you to get back on the wagon when you fall off. Make sure you’re ready willing and able to do the same—support and understanding is the goal here, not judgment or commiseration. If you don’t know anyone who fits the bill, visit MyFitnessPal on Facebook or click over to the forums where you will find other users who share your goals, and are looking for a Fitness Tribe, too.

3. Follow the 4Cs: connection, clarity, communication, consistency You want your Fitness Tribe to get together at the times and in the places that work best for everyone in the group. Be clear about how often you’ll meet, and what those meeting will look like. You can connect in person every other day to workout, once a week via email, or you can add Friends on MyFitnessPal, and like or share with them daily or monthly—it’s totally up to you!
