I Have a Wearable. Now What?

You asked for it: a fitness tracking wearable device. AND SANTA DELIVERED. But what do you do now?

Well, you get in the habit of wearing it, first off. The elves at MyFitnessPal suggest keeping it with your phone at night so that it’s easier to remember to put on every morning.

But before you even do that, we suggest syncing your device with your MyFitnessPal account. What’s in it for you?

  • Connecting your accounts makes it faster and easier to get exercise information into your account, so you can have a clearer, round-the-clock view into your food AND your fitness.
  • Syncing your fitness tracker to MyFitnessPal automatically updates your food diary to give you an extra calorie allowance for the calories you burn, as tracked by your device.
  • Best of all, our data scientists have found that MyFitnessPal members who connect their accounts with another fitness device or app are nearly twice as likely to succeed at reaching their health goals as members who haven’t linked up their MyFitnessPal account with any other devices or fitness apps.

Don’t take it from us! We asked a few MyFitnessPal users what they got out of connecting their wearables and other fitness tracking apps to their MyFitnessPal accounts. Here’s what they had to say:

  • “I have linked my Fitbit. If I see I haven’t made my step goal for the day, it makes me want to get up and get active to meet it!” – Bobbi J.
  • “I just purchased a Jawbone Up24 and it connected very easily with MFP and Map My Run. Great tools to help me on my journey!” – Jamie V.
  • “I have the Apple health app and Map My Fitness connected. I love the cross referencing and the way Apple steps shows in MFP.” – Kris B.
  • “Yes of course my phone. Thru which I use my Map My Walk and my C25K apps which sync automatically to my MFP! Its fabulous helps so much with my motivation! I’ve lost over 35 lbs and kept it off for 3 years. MFP rocks! I’m baffled why more people don’t use it.” – Melissa G.

To connect your wearable device or fitness app to MyFitnessPal, go to our App Gallery, here, and find the device or app you’d like to link, then follow the instructions from there.

Here’s to a happy, healthy 2015!

But it can’t connect to my new garmin vivosmart – so frustrating. Hope this issue gets sorted quickly

  2. Ambel says:

What about the Garmin Vivosmart? I too hope you address this in the near future.

    • Doug says:

You go to garmin connect and link to fitness pal through there. Works awesome.

      • Cpait says:

Doug that worked for me For one day but then it stopped and wiped out. Weird?

      • Denise says:

Nope. Synced my first meal, then no more. My garmin vivosmart will not transfer steps to MFP nor will it show calorie information. False advertising.

      • Ambel says:

Thanks Doug. I finally got my Garmin Connect account to link to MFP. (I had to do it manually through the website, not the app.) However as everyone has mentioned the info isn’t syncing, unless I do it manually through the website, and even then only my MFP calories show on GC. My steps do not show on MFP.
        I hope this gets fixed.

      • Steph says:

I have mine linked however nothing transfers over to my fitness pal. Such as steps or cals burned. How do you get this to transfer over?

  3. Kit says:

is anyone working on resolving the issue with vivofit and mfp not syncing/sharing data? All the information is syncing into my apple app from Garmin Connect, which then should connect with mfp, but for some reason it is not working either. This is extremely frustrating. I burned 800 calories in boxing class this morning, but can’t see it in mfp. Get it fixed.

    • LaDawn says:

I am having the same problem! I have tried numerous times to connect with MFP.

    • Hailey says:

My vivofit isn’t syncing with mfp either. I have to do it all separately with the apps. It’s kind of frustrating. I have done everything they’ve said in order to have mfp sync with vivofit connect and nothings worked. I’ve had it for a week now and it still won’t work.

      • Steph says:

Are you having to create an exercise and add it there? I’m not sure how people are getting it over. Like GC shows how many cals burned but that’s it I have been manually making an exercise called Garmin Vivofit and making my own cals burned there.

  4. MilaXX says:

I wish you would add both the Garmin vivosmart/vivofit & the Polar Loop

  5. wtstephens says:

Ditto everyone else’s statements with Garmin Connect. I bought it because it was the most accurate on the market and it syncs with MFP. Except it stopped.

  6. emma says:

I’ve had my Vivofit for a while now, love and never take it off, but am sad the syncing is no longer working.

  7. shannon says:

I have the samsung fit gear, can that link?

  8. Suzanne says:

I would like to see syncing with Polar! I love my M400 but no MFP integration available 🙁

I have a Garmin Vivosmart and love it. Please support the VivoSmart, I wear it 24/7 (it tracks sleep too) and find all of its features to be excellent – except I can’t get it to talk to my MyFitnessPal account.

Sure would be nice if Nike+ FuelBand and MFP could be friends!

  16. sizzle says:

I did it! Day one in the bag.

  17. meganjtyler says:

Yes I just received a garmin vivosmart too and would love to be able to link this to mfp!

  19. matt says:

I linked the Garmin vivofit to MFP account, but it will not sync entries.

  20. Justine says:

I have the Garmin Vivofit and wish it would send exercise data to myfitnesspal also! Such a disappointment; I really like the Vivofit and I use MFP so much… Wish they were more compatible.

  21. joel says:

Yes you need to fix the Garmin vivosmart sync feature please. It was working now it is not

  22. Sheryn says:

My fitness pal says it’s connected to my fitbit but my meals aren’t coming across today (they did yesterday) what am I doing wrong??

  23. Maz says:

Any plans to get the polar loop connected with mfp?

  24. jamesteuscher says:

My vivofit shows that I burned 220ish calories walking around today and I tracked my intake on MFP. Neither has showed that they were updating every 5 minutes. The connect app says I still need to eat 2000+ calories.

  25. Garstimar says:

I also have a Garmin vivofit and while I am in the Garmin app it will connect with MFP and open the MFP app, but it wi) not share info. Very disappointed. Does anyone from MFP even read these comments?

  26. Donnie says:

What do you do when for 3 months MyFitness stops updating your food usage in your wearable website…and only accepts the data from you device 20percent of the time?

  27. EdgeGoalie31 says:

I have the Jawbone Up. It will pull info from MFP but not the other way around. I’ve unlinked then and relinked them. I don’t know what to do.

  28. Cpait says:

Yes please fix the Garmin integration. My vivosmart doesn’t know what I’m eating and MFP doesn’t know I’m walking. Please fix when you come back from Christmas vacation please and thank you.

  29. katdkdhf says:

What about 3plus fitness band? I just bought one but i don’t think it syncs with MFP or I don’t know what I’m doing. Please someone help me.

  30. Leelee says:

How do I reset my vivofit watch calories burned for the day to start fresh the next day?

  31. lottey says:

could the issue with vivofit not syncing have anything to do with the latest Apple update ? Mine used to work fine now it won’t share data between myfitnesspal and garmin connect at all, not even via a pic

  32. Woggsybug says:

So, about the Garmin Vivofit , mine won’t sync with the mfp , but it works fine if I just stick with the Vivofit app. Weird.
But , here’s my question, it counts my steps , but what do I do if I’m cycling? Do I manually add that? I’ve only had this for a day and I’m dying to get it all working! Lol
    🙂

  33. Nursebeachnut says:

can we figure out how to sync to Polar Loop please 🙁

  34. Linda Christie says:

I linked my FitBit to MFP, then disconnected it as I couldn’t then see my monthly and annual mileage reports on FitBit, and it stopped showing my Active Minutes. MFP is an amazing diet tool but I wouldn’t link a FitBit to it again.

  35. Ian Lozada says:

Polar Loop. It’s the best option out there for really tracking your calories because it can be synced to a for-real heart monitor, and MFP doesn’t play nice with it at all.

  36. Fishface says:

Why don’t you offer sync capability with polar loop???????

  37. kp says:

Was really excited to get a vívofit for Christmas as I knew it would work with mfp but since I got it, I have spent more of my time on my laptop tearing my hair out trying to work out how to get it all to talk to each other (which so far defeats the purpose of having it to monitor activities!) Can sync if I open it up in desktop but not through the app and the exercise doesn’t pick up at all.
Feel really disappointed and hope it is something that can be resolved.

  38. Astrid says:

Is there any plan to sync the Samsung products with MyFitnessPal?

  39. Nathan says:

+1 here requesting a fix for syncing steps/calories used / consumed post-haste! I bought Vívofits for my wife and I for Christmas. Linked MFP, Garmin connect, iPhone6 health app and MapmyRun. Seems like the concept is sound in consolidating the data for an accurate summary.

However, like everyone else I can only manually sync calories via Garmin connect website. And even then that still does not sync vívofit steps/calories to MFP.

I can “kinda” see the benefits (wish I’d bought the hrm bundle now for easier activity monitoring though), but it does not help either MFP or Garmin’s reputation and credibility when people ask me how I’m finding the functionality and I have to respond with, “GREAT BUT IT’S NOT WORKING!”

  40. Techno Spice says:

Ya’ll need to be able to sync with the Gear Fit first.

  41. Ta 5 says:

There are exercises that I do but I can not log it into MFP. I use the Jillian Michaels video series & I have a gazelle. What can I do.

  42. lemaster63 says:

Can someone with myfitnesspal please give an update on the Garmin Connect issue?

  43. Victoria Lively Martin says:

About to get the Fitbit. I am hoping it will be the right choice. I know it will sync up with my fitness pal. Any suggestions??

  44. Jannaro says:

I also cannot get my Garmin Connect to sync with MFP. Very frustrating!

  45. Mosnowman says:

It would be nice if Garmin would comment on the incompatibility issues. Just bought my wife and I two vivofits with heart monitors and they won’t work with MFP…what the heck? Garmin…..hello…..Garmin…please comment

  46. piper45 says:

PLEASE add the garmin vivosmart! I want my steps to go to myfitnesspal and I want myfitnesspal calories to go to my garminconnect!

  47. sunnyb973 says:

MFP says it is synced to my fitbit, but no data is showing up under activity on MFP. Am I missing something? Thanks 🙂

  48. Juanita says:

Nothing more to say than I agree. I had Fuelband and switched to the Vivosmart for sync capability. For the price I paid, I expect to get what was advertised or a refund.

    • My Fuel Pal says:

There is a new app called My Fuel Pal, which launches soon, check out face book or Twitter for release date, hope this help

  49. emmah1 says:

I have a garmin vivosmart and I have linked my connect app to my fitness pal and it does not correspond with each other. Very frustrating when it is suppose to work!

  50. Matt says:

I think I made a mistake buying the vivosmart. Based on the feedback? Maybe I should have bought a Fitbit Charge? I haven’t received my Garmin. Maybe I should cancel my order?

    • Bre says:

I have a vivofit and i love it. I think it was the best choice ever. I’m a little hurt that the new one came out after i got mine with the heart rate monitor and the back light but i’m ok

  51. deb13y says:

  52. Debbie says:

I have a inplanted defibulator/pacemaker. I cannot use a vivo fit. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can use to keep track of my steps and calories

  53. Stephanie says:

I just got the Vivofit and it counts steps even when I’m driving or sleeping. Does anybody else have this problem?

  54. Icebox says:

This may be a dumb question but I want to be 100% sure I’m in the correct school of thought. I have been using myfitnesspal for the better part of 2 years now and I have manually logged every workout since the beginning of time. I received my fitbit charge hr yesterday and haven’t even had it on for a full 24 hours yet. My fitbit, myfitnesspal, my garmin connect, and my runtastic accounts are all connected/linked. Okay so my question, do I never manually log anything ever again? It just seems so weird! 🙂

  55. sue says:

my garmin viivofit with my fitness pal sync for first 4 days and not will not sync the caloriesnow that i put into diary. I already reconnected to my fitness pal once -what up?

  57. Luke says:

    Hi,

I just brought a polar loop but can’t link it to my fitness pal? Any suggestions

  58. Alaina Girard says:

I realize this is late coming, but I have a Garmin Forerunner 15, and I literally JUST looked at the MFP app on my phone, and in that app, under “more”, you have to click on “steps” and then enable MFP to track your steps by clicking on the device you have paired. I did that, and BOOM. My calories adjusted 🙂 Hope that helps people!

  59. Desiree says:

I have a polar ft4 but it doesn’t sync. What polar devices sync with this app is any??
