9 Insider Tips From the MyFitnessPal Staff

Nearly 180 million people use MyFitnessPal to achieve their goals and live healthier lives — including those of us who work on the MyFitnessPal team. We reached out to our staff who shared their insider tips for getting the most out of the app and creating healthy habits for life.

MFP STAFF’S BEST TIPS

1

LOG, LOG, LOG

“When I started, I focused on consistently logging. I didn’t make any changes to what I ate at first. Understanding what I was eating helped me understand what I can adjust.” – Joseph C.

2

KNOW WHEN TO LOG

“I use MFP and log before I eat a food, so I know how much I should be eating to stay within my macro/calorie goals.” – Gloria C.

3

MIX UP YOUR MEALS

“When I’m stumped on what to make for dinner, I use Recipe Discovery to find new meals. Many of the recipes end up in my normal rotation.” – Stephanie N.

4

EMPHASIS ON EVERYTHING

“[Log] everything, especially the stuff you are maybe ashamed to.” – Jon K.

5

MAKE YOUR DIARY CHRONOLOGICAL

“I renamed my six meal slots to be in reverse chronological order (e.g., Dinner at top, Breakfast at bottom) so the meals I need to log stay readily available at the top of my diary instead of getting pushed further down (and forgotten) as the logging day goes on.” – Jay K.

6

MICRONUTRIENTS ARE IMPORTANT, TOO

“I like to look at micronutrients, to see how I’m doing on iron, vitamin C, potassium and more.” – Brianna W.

7

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

“I’m trying to slowly cut out soda from my diet, so I’ve created a new meal category called “Sodas” to help me keep track of everything I drink.” – Natalie B.

8

TRACK POUNDS LIFTED (NOT LOST)

“I added weightlifting exercises as measurements to track so that I can log my max weight under “Progress” in the apps and keep tabs on my gains.” – Derrick L.

9

SET SMART GOALS

Define your goal clearly and understand what you need to do to accomplish that goal. It’s not always just about calories.” – Sunny R.
